Our log home operation offers you an economical way of obtaining your dream home or cabin. We are a small family run business, selling to building contractors or do it youself builders. Sawlog is not a builder, we are a wholesale manufacturer. We do not design your home. However, we will price out any plans you have.
We use local white pine logs, for its natural resistance to decay and insect infestation. White pine is the ony species we use. Local sawmills cut and deliver these logs to us after they have been squared. We then air dry the squared beams for at lease a year. We then custom mill the logs, "D-shaped" (flat on the inside and round on the outside) and tongue and groove on the top and bottom to help weather seal them. We can make double round logs, round on the inside as well as the outside with the tongue and groove on top and bottom. We also have kiln drying facilities available. We prefer to air dry to reduce stress on the logs. We offer 6" x 8" logs milled either way. We manufacture log siding to match our logs 8" or 6" for those who prefer frame construction. Our log siding is also made of white pine and can be installed on a new home or for re-siding and existing home. It can be used on the exterior of the home, or inside to add the log home feel to interior rooms. The siding is milled to match the profile of our full logs to retain the authentic log home style. Siding is usually used in the gable ends for easier construction and for skirting around the basement. Log corners can be added to make the exterior of a log sided home indistinguishable from a full log home. We carry all the materials necessary to put the logs up: Olylog fasteners, foam insulation, wooden splines and puttylastic caulking. The pine logs need some type of water protection on the outside. We recommend CWF (clear wood finish). CWF is a clear preservative with a varity of stain choices available. Typically a home will be treated immediately after it is constructed with the second treatment one year later. Then it is ususally every 3-5 years depending upon the exposure to the elements. Most people use polyurethane to finish the inside of their home. Our pine is cut to order with an average lead time of two weeks, from the time you place your order to the time it is ready for pickup or delivery. We have our own trucks available for delivery, unloading in a timely manner is the customers responsibility. |
